New campus brings expanded access to diagnostic imaging services beginning March 2
GUELPH, ON – February 20, 2026 – Guelph General Hospital and The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital celebrated the completion of construction at the new Speedvale Campus yesterday. This new Diagnostic Imaging Centre will begin completing patient scans on March 2, improving access to diagnostic imaging services for residents throughout Guelph-Wellington.
Located at Unit 1 460 Speedvale Avenue West, on the Guelph campus of Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, the centre will soon welcome patients for expanded diagnostic imaging services, including a new MRI, mammography, ultrasound, x-ray, and bone mineral density (BMD) testing.
“Yesterday was more than recognizing a new space, it was a moment of incredible achievement for our hospital team and a great source of pride that we share with our community,” said Mark Walton, President and CEO at Guelph General Hospital. “The centre expands the care we can provide, offers space to train the next generation of health care professionals, and will undoubtedly attract the best and brightest to our team.”
The centre was made by possible through generous community donations made to The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, including a landmark $5 million gift from The Angel Gabriel Foundation, as well as leading gifts from the Barzotti family, FDC Foundation, the Hunter family, and the Kolhi and Hirani families.
“Phase one of the new Speedvale Campus is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together with a shared vision,” said Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. “In total over $11 million has been raised by more than 1,600 donors; together, they’ve made it possible to receive expanded access to high-quality diagnostic imaging, earlier detection and faster diagnoses, close to home.”
The speed at which this vision has become a reality is as remarkable as the achievement itself; construction began in July 2025, and the centre will officially begin accepting patients within the next two weeks.
“For 150 years, Guelph General Hospital has been at the heart of care in our community. As Guelph-Wellington continues to grow, investments like the new Diagnostic Imaging Centre are critical to ensuring people can access timely, high-quality care close to home. This new centre will help reduce wait times, support earlier diagnoses and strengthen our local health care system for years to come. I am so grateful to the generous donors who made this new medical centre possible. Thank you to the leadership team at Guelph General, Conestoga College and the Ministry of Health for their ongoing collaboration to improve care in our region,” said Guelph MPP and Ontario Green Party leader Mike Schreiner.
Planning is already underway for phase two of the new centre, which will see the addition of other outpatient services including endoscopy and an orthopedic fracture clinic in spring of 2027.
Emergency diagnostic imaging and ambulatory care services will remain at the GGH Delhi Campus and patients will be made aware of their appointment location at the time of booking. GUELPH – The University of Guelph has announced the appointment of Dr. Julia Montgomery, dean of the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC).
An academic leader, researcher and veterinarian with more than two decades of extensive experience, Mongtomery will begin a five-year term starting June 15.
“I am deeply humbled and genuinely excited to be joining the Ontario Veterinary College as its next dean,” said Montgomery in a press release. “Being entrusted with the leadership of Canada’s premier veterinary institution by the OVC community and the University of Guelph is a great honour.”
Montgomery most recently served as professor and department head of veterinary clinical services at Oklahoma State University following her postdoctoral fellowship in pulmonary pathobiology. Prior to that, she spent more than a decade on faculty at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
Her research concentrates on clinically applied questions in equine medicine including asthma, metabolic syndrome, laminitis and rehabilitation. Her work is particularly focused on innovative technologies to advance both animal and human health, in alignment with U of G’s One Health Institute.
Montgomery received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany and a PhD from the University of Prince Edward Island. She completed a Large Animal Internal Medicine (LAIM) residency before serving as a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, specialty of LAIM.

Moongazers across Canada will be treated to a full lunar eclipse early on Tuesday, but not everyone will have the best seats in the house for the celestial show that's expected to turn the moon red.
Astronomy experts say the "blood moon" eclipse will be best seen the further west you go.
A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth is between the moon and the sun and the moon passes through the shadow cast by Earth.
The Canadian Space Agency says the phenomenon only happens during a full moon, and eclipse totality occurs when Earth completely blocks sunlight from reaching the moon.
The agency says the Maritimes will be in a "race against the sunrise" to catch the eclipse Tuesday morning, Quebec and Ontario should be able to see the beginning of totality, and those in the Mountain and Pacific time zones have the best chance to see it in full.
Lunar eclipse totality is expected to start at 7:04 a.m. Atlantic time, 6:04 a.m. Eastern time, 4:04 a.m. Mountain Time and 3:04 a.m. Pacific time.
"The eclipse will be best seen the further west you are located," York University professor emeritus of physics and astronomy Paul Delaney said.
He noted that totality will begin in Toronto during morning twilight with the moon only eight degrees above the western horizon.
While that could make for "some interesting" photographs, people in urban settings may have difficulty seeing the eclipse, Delaney wrote in an email to The Canadian Press.
Totality ends by 6:52 a.m. in Toronto, where "the moon will have already set," he wrote. "Vancouver gets it all!"
Delaney urged blood moon observers to dress for the weather and plan to be outside for at least 30 minutes for the full experience.
Unlike the solar eclipse, there is no danger to observing the lunar eclipse with the naked eye and no special equipment is needed.
"Watching the bright full moon be engulfed by the Earth's shadow and then turning orange-red is quite something," Delaney wrote.
The next total lunar eclipse is not until the very end of 2028, he added.
